Safe Home Environment for Your Pet

As pet parents, we surely love our pets. They offer us unconditional love and emotional support . It is crucial to ensure their safety from the outset they enter our homes. For those first time pet parents, sharing a check-list of how to create a safe-home environment. Begin by pet-proofing your living space.

5 Tips to Keep Your Pet Safe At Home.

There are two things are pet parents, we care, what can get into their way while they wake ? and What can they get into when you are in deep in sleep, snoring away ? Pets have an instinct to hide their pain, and illness, even if they are hurt, they may never bark at night or meow loudly.

1. Choose Pet friendly fabric

Pet-friendly fabrics prioritize durability, stain resistance, and ease of cleaning, with top choices including synthetic micro-fiber, performance fabrics like Sunbrella, leather, and faux leather. These materials feature tight weaves that resist claw snags, shed pet hair easily, and allow for simple, quick cleaning of stains and odors.

Top Pet-Friendly Fabrics

Micro-fiber : Considered the best overall choice, it is tightly woven, durable, resistant to scratches, and easy to clean.

Leather and Faux Leather : Extremely easy to clean, hair does not stick to it, and it can be wiped down quickly.

Performance Fabrics : (e.g. Sunbrella, Crypton): Engineered to be, stain-resistant, water-repellent, and durable against scratches.

Canvas & Denim : Tough, durable fabrics that withstand heavy use.

Synthetic Blends : Materials like polyester and nylon are resilient and easy to maintain.

Fabrics to Avoid

Loose Weaves: Linen, tweed, or chenille, which snag easily on claws.

Delicate Materials: Silk and velvet, which are difficult to clean and damage easily.

Key Features for Pet Homes

Tight Weave: Prevents claws from getting stuck.

Stain-Resistant Technology: Repels liquids and oils.

Easy-to-Clean: Allows for quick, simple maintenance.

For extra protection, consider using removable and washable slipcovers

2.Block off Balconies.

Homes with balconies are potential traps for your pets mishap. Ensuring that balconies with railings are covered with wire mesh or thick fabric like canvas, to prevent pets getting stuck in fixed railings or grills or falling off where the gap is big enough.

3.Provide a Safe Pet-only-Space.

While many pets like to follow us everywhere we go, so make sure you create a " safe-pet-only-space". Give them human retreat when they are overstimulated, need no-human time. Adorn it with pet bed, favourite pet appropriate toys with appropriate size or scratching posts and drinking pods.

4. Accessible Food and Water Stations

Consider the design of the home to decide the best place to place feeding stations. Depending on where you and your family and pet spend their time, you need more than one. Popular places include the back entrance of the home, near the kitchen . Consider food and water dishes near the master bathroom, which may be odd, but super convenient for them to be occupied while you take a shower. Use elevated feeder for larger dogs to help with digestion and reduce the strain on their neck and joints

5.Secure Hazardous Areas

Keep cleaning supplies, chemicals and small objects that can be swallowed out of reach just as you would for kids. Install baby gates, drawer protectors,  to close drawers, doors just as you would do it for a baby. Alternatively  keep trash cans covered and stored away as pets are naturally curious and might dig through garbage for tasty but dangerous snacks. "Pet lock"  your garbage for that naughty pet that can try every trick.

Consider removing poisonous plants, securing loose electrical cords, and placing hazardous items such as cleaners and medications out of reach. Designate a safe area where your pet can acclimate to their new surroundings; a quiet, cozy space where they can feel secure can significantly ease the transition.

A little extra effort in securing these areas that can prevent accidents and keeping pets safe.
